FAQs

How do I add my Philips Hue device using a QR code?

To add a device to your Bridge, make sure your Hue app is updated to the latest version and follow these steps:

  1. Gather the devcies you want to add and find their QR codes, located on the devices themselves.
  2. In the Home tab, tap the three-dots (…) icon.
  3. Tap Add devices and follow the on-screen instructions to scan the QR codes and add the devices to your Bridge.

Where can I find the QR codes on my Philips Hue devices?

QR codes are usually found on the product itself, such as on the back or bottom of the product itself or on a tag on the power cable. Lightstrips have QR codes on the RF box, i.e., the box that connects the lightstrip to the plug. Smart switches might have QR codes inside their battery compartments.

I can't find the QR code on my device. What should I do?

If you can't find your device's QR code, or if it's missing or damaged, add a new device and choose No QR code when prompted.

Can I scan multiple devices' QR codes to add them all to my Bridge at once?

Yes! Scan all the QR codes you'd like to add to a Room. The app will guide you through adding them to your Bridge.

Can I add multiple devices for multiple Rooms by scanning their QR codes?

During setup, the app will first guide you through adding the lights to an existing Room or creating a new Room. Then, you'll scan the devices you want to be added to that Room. When setup for that Room is complete, you'll create the next Room, scan your devices, and so on.

I can't scan the QR code. What should I do?

If you can't scan the QR code, try these tips:

  • Make sure you're using the QR code on the physical device you want to add.
  • Make sure the light itself is powered off to make sure the camera isn't overexposed.
  • Make sure your camera is properly focused and there is sufficient light for it to see the QR code.

Still having trouble? Select No QR code during setup to add a device with its serial number or setup code, also located on the physical device itself.

Can I scan the QR code on an older Philips Hue device to add it to my Bridge?

Usually! Most Philips Hue devices can be added to your Bridge via the QR code. However, some devices may not have a QR code. In that case, you can select No QR code during setup to add the device with its serial number or setup code.

Do I need an internet connection to add devices to my Bridge by scanning their QR codes?

Yes. Your mobile device needs to be connected to the internet to add devices to your Bridge using their QR codes.

Can I scan a QR code on a Philips Hue device to add it to my system if I don't have a Hue Bridge?

Yes. If you don't have a Bridge, you can add devices to your app by scanning their QR codes and control them using Bluetooth.

Can I add a product that's already been set up by scanning its QR code?

No. The app lets you know when you scan a QR code that has already been set up. If you're experiencing issues with your device, try deleting it from your system and readding it with the QR code.
