It depends on what you want your lights to do! There are two ways to control a Philips Hue smart lighting system: Bluetooth and with the Hue Bridge. Though one is not necessarily better than the other, adding a Hue Bridge to your set-up unlocks the full suite of smart lighting features, some of which aren’t available with a Bluetooth-controlled system.

Philips Hue Motion sensors turn on your lights to any settings you'd like. The Hue Motion sensor also has three timeslots so you can customise your settings based on the time of the day.

Contact sensors attach to doors and windows to detect if it has been opened or closed. A motion sensor simply detects movement in its field of view. Both Philips Hue contact sensors and motion sensors can be used to trigger your lights.
