How to set up and use the Hue sync box
Questions and answers
How does Hue Sync work?
Hue Sync — where your smart lights react to the content on a screen — works in one of two ways. You can either use the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box with the Hue Sync mobile app or a computer with the Hue Sync desktop app. Hue Sync works by using a proprietary algorithm that analyzes the entire screen, producing a custom light script that is instantly sent to your color-capable Hue lights.
Which Philips Hue products can I use with the Entertainment feature?
You can use all Hue White and color ambiance bulbs and fixtures, as well as Hue Sync-compatible Works with Hue products.
What do I need to be able to sync my smart lights with the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box?
Getting started with the sync box is as easy as 1-2-3:
1. Install Philips Hue color-capable smart lights and a Hue Bridge with the Philips Hue app
2. Connect the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box to your HDMI devices and your TV
3. Download the Philips Hue Sync mobile app
What is the best way to set up my entertainment area?
You can create an Entertainment area in the Hue app — it will tell your Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box how many lights you have, where and at which height the lights are located, and how the sync box should use them while syncing.
For the best results, we recommend using several Philips Hue color-capable smart lights. Try Play light bars placed around your TV, a Play gradient lightstrip attached to the back of your TV, and/or a Hue Go, Hue Signe, or any other color-capable light throughout the room.
How can I watch Netflix with Hue Sync?
You can sync Netflix with your Philips Hue lights on your computer by using the Hue Sync desktop app or on your TV using a Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box and the Hue Sync mobile app and watching Netflix on an HDMI device, such as a gaming console or a Chromecast. The Hue sync box does not work with built-in TV apps.
