FAQ list

Does the integration with Philips Hue and Spotify work with all Philips Hue products?

The Spotify integration requires a Bridge and at least one color-capable Philips Hue smart light. A Bluetooth-controlled setup is not able to pair with Spotify.

Which app do I use for the Philips Hue + Spotify integration?

To set up Philips Hue + Spotify, go to the Sync tab in the Philips Hue app.

What’s the difference between the Philips Hue + Spotify integration and third-party apps?

Third-party apps often use your mobile device's microphone or another type of direct input to generate a light effect. Philips Hue + Spotify uses the metadata from each song to generate a unique light script that matches not just the beat of the song but its mood and genre too.

Do I need a Spotify Premium account to use Philips Hue + Spotify?

No. Philips Hue + Spotify also works with free Spotify accounts.

How can I connect Philips Hue with Spotify?

In the Philips Hue app, go to the Sync tab. Follow the on-screen instructions to link your Philips Hue and Spotify accounts.

Can I sync my lights in two separate Entertainment areas at once?

No. You can only sync your lights with one Entertainment area at a time.

My lights don't seem to be reacting correctly to my music. What can I do to fix it?

When streaming music to a speaker or other audio device, there could be a few milliseconds of delay between the music and the reaction of your lights. You can correct this by adjusting the Latency setting in the Sync tab of the Philips Hue app. Additionally, try switching between the different "Style" modes in the app or increase the brightness of the lights.

Does Philips Hue + Spotify work when casting to other devices via the "Connect with a device" setting in the Spotify app?

Yes. Follow these steps in order:

  • Connect to a speaker in the Spotify app.
  • Start playing music.
  • In the Philips Hue app, go to the Sync tab and tap Start sync.

Can I use voice assistants to control Philips Hue + Spotify?

You can control Philips Hue + Spotify with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant with commands such as "Alexa, set music sync to start" and "Hey Google, start music sync."

I paired my Philips Hue and Spotify accounts, but my lights are not reacting to the music. What should I do?

Make sure your Bridge is powered on and connected to the internet, your phone is connected to the internet, Spotify isn't in offline mode, and that you have the latest version of the Philips Hue app. Note that Philips Hue + Spotify won't work if another device, such as the Philips Hue Play HDMI sync box, is already syncing.
