How to set up Philips Hue with Apple Home

Use Siri and Apple HomeKit technology to control your lights and create a complete smart home.

What you need to have

Before you add Hue to HomeKit, let’s make sure you have everything.

Smart bulbs, lamps, ceiling fixtures, you name it — all Philips Hue lights are compatible with Apple Home.

Make sure you have the Home app downloaded onto your device, whether it’s an iPad or iPhone.

What you need to do

  • Open the Philips Hue app and navigate to Settings > Smart home & voice.
  • Tap Get started.
  • Tap Siri & Apple Home.
  • Tap Set up.
  • Tap Next and sign in with your Hue account.
  • Choose the Home you want to connect to, or create a new one.
  • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your lights in the Apple Home app.
  • Tap Done.

Your lights will appear in a default room the Home app. Organize and group your lights into rooms to reflect their physical locations in your home. 

Already connected, and want to switch to Matter? Get the instructions.  

Just say, “Hey Siri...”

Now that you’re set up, try out some of the most popular voice commands!

Questions & answers

I’m already connected to Apple Home, but I want to use Matter instead. How do I switch?

It’s easy! Follow these steps:

  1. Open the Philips Hue app and navigate to Settings > Smart home & voice.  

  1. Tap Siri & Apple Home.

  1. Tap Settings.

  1. Tap Set up Apple Home with Matter, and then follow the on-screen instructions.

    This requires an Apple home hub. To set up Apple Home with Matter, you’ll need to unlink your Apple Home account, which will remove your current settings. 

My Hue Bridge cannot be found in HomeKit.

Make sure that your mobile device is connected to the same router to which your Hue Bridge is connected. The router must be able to support Apple’s Bonjour software, which allows you to discover other devices and services on the network. If your router does not support this feature, you will not be able to use HomeKit.

What is Apple HomeKit?

Apple HomeKit allows you to control all your smart home’s smart devices and accessories — including Philips Hue.

Can I control my lights while away from home with the Home app?

Yes! You’ll need an Apple device that stays at home, such as an iPad, Apple TV, or HomePod.

What if my lights in the Hue app don’t match up with my Home app?

If you make changes to the lights in your Hue app, your Home app may not reflect these changes. To make them match go to
Settings > Smart home & voice > Siri & HomeKit > Settings and tap Sync setup to HomeKit.
