What actions can I take to ensure my Philips Hue products are safe from hacking?

The Philips Hue ecosystem uses industry-standard encryption and authentication techniques to help protect against unauthorized users gaining access to your Philips Hue products. Philips Hue only connects to the internet securely via a dedicated cloud, so your devices cannot be seen from the open internet. Philips Hue products update regularly with the latest security fixes and patches — a feature you can enable once you have a Bridge and a Philips Hue account.

You can also take steps to ensure your home network is secure. For more assistance on protecting your home network, contact your internet service provider.

What data is collected by the Philips Hue system when using the Coming home and Leaving home automations?

When you use a Coming home or Leaving home automation, the location coordinates used by the Philips Hue app never leave your mobile device. Based on these coordinates, the Philips Hue app sets your Home location on the Bridge. The Bridge only shares your Home location with applications you have given permission to.

What data is collected by the Philips Hue system when using a motion sensor?

The Philips Hue motion sensor collects temperature measurements, ambient light levels, and motion events, and shares that data with the Philips Hue app and the Philips Hue cloud. This data can only be used by applications you've previously authorized.

What should I do if I’m returning or reselling a used Bridge or Secure camera?

If you’re returning/reselling a Bridge:

Before returning or reselling your Bridge, perform a factory reset on it. After the factory reset, your Philips Hue account will no longer be linked to that Bridge. All of the data stored on the Bridge will be deleted.

If you’re returning/reselling a Secure camera:

First, open the Philips Hue app and delete the camera from your system. Go to Settings > Cameras, select your camera, scroll down to the bottom, and then tap Delete. The camera will be removed from both your app and Philips Hue account, and the camera factory reset automatically. When physically delivering the camera, make sure to include the ownership card with the QR code, which is necessary to set the camera up again.
