Can I use the Tap dial switch with HomeKit?

HomeKit doesn’t offer full support for the Tap dial switch yet. You'll be able to program the buttons on the switch, but you won't be able to use the dial to dim and brighten.

What can the buttons and dial on a Tap dial switch do?

Each button on the Tap dial switch can cycle through scenes, and each button can control a separate Room or Zone. The dial dims or brightens one Room or Zone.

What do the different colors of LED light on the Tap dial switch mean?

Orange (slow blinking): The Tap dial switch is in setup mode and ready to be added to the Philips Hue app.

Green (flash when pressed): The Tap dial switch is controlling a light.

Orange (flash when pressed): The battery in the Tap dial switch is low and will last a few more months. You'll need to replace it soon.

Red (flash when pressed): The battery in the Tap dial switch is critically low and will last a few more weeks. You'll need to replace it very soon.

Red (slow blinking): The Tap dial switch is unreachable.

Green > orange > red (blinking): The Tap dial switch has been reset. You can factory reset the switch by pressing the setup button for 10 seconds.

How do I reset the Tap dial switch to its factory settings?

Open the battery compartment on the back of the Tap dial switch. Press and hold the setup button for 10 seconds. After the reset, you'll need to add the Tap dial switch to your Philips Hue setup again.

How do I connect my Tap dial switch to my Bluetooth setup?

  1. Open the battery compartment cover to reveal the setup button on the back of the switch.
  2. On the front of the switch, press and hold the first button (one dot) for three seconds. Release when the LED flashes green, orange, and then red. It will then blink orange until you connect the first light.
  3. Holding the Tap dial switch at least 10 cm from the light you want to control, press the setup button on the back of the dial switch for three seconds. The connection is successful when your lamp or bulb blinks and then stays on.
  4. Optional: Press and release the setup button and repeat step 3 for each additional light you would like to connect to the Tap dial switch.

Don't forget to replace the battery compartment cover when you're finished!

Can I use the Tap dial switch to turn off all the lights in my house, a Room, or a Zone?

Yes! You’ll need a Bridge for this feature. In the Settings tab, tap Accessories and select your Tap dial switch. In the Edit accessory screen, you will see the Press and hold option for each button.

I want to cycle through the scenes, but my lights turn off. What happened?

Each of the buttons can also turn off the lights in its respective Room or Zone by long pressing the button for about a second. You may have pressed the button a little too long when trying to cycle through your scenes. If that isn’t the case, check your Tap dial switch’s configuration in the Edit accessory screen of the Philips Hue app, as you can also program a button to turn off your lights with a single press instead of setting a scene.

When I turn off my lights with the dial and then turn them on again, they turn on to the previous scene instead of minimal brightness. What happened?

If you turned off the lights using the dial and then turned them on again within three seconds, the Tap dial switch will assume you wanted to dim, not turn the lights off. Because of that, the dial switch will set the last scene you had.

Can I prevent the dial of my Tap dial switch from turning off the lights completely?

Yes! You can adjust the settings of the Tap dial switch in the Philips Hue app:

  1. In the Settings tab, tap Accessories.
  2. Select your Tap dial switch.
  3. Scroll over and select the dial.
  4. In the Behavior section, tap When lights are on and select Dim to minimum brightness.
