How does the Philips Hue Sync desktop app work?

The Sync desktop app allows your Philips Hue smart lights to react to the content on your computer screen or music. It uses a proprietary algorithm that analyzes the entire screen or the beat of a song (depending which mode you use). It produces custom light script that is instantly sent to your color-capable Philips Hue lights. 

Does the Sync desktop app work with streaming services I use on my computer?

The Sync desktop app works with video upload services such as Vimeo or YouTube. However, Digital Right Management (DRM) limits its abilities, so the app doesn't work with streaming services such as Netflix or Disney+. 

What do I need to be able to sync my lights with my media?

To sync your lights with the Sync desktop app, you'll need the following: 

  • Bridge
  • Philips Hue app
  • At least one color-capable Philips Hue light
  • The Philips Hue Sync desktop app

Which OS versions are supported by the Sync desktop app?

For Windows, versions 10 and up is compatible. For MacOS, Big Sur and newer are supported.
